La presente tesis doctoral pretende abordar un problema de base que es la falta de cultura emprendedora entre los jóvenes universitarios, por lo que se subraya la necesidad de fomentar aptitudes transversales de alta calidad a fin de que los alumnos puedan desarrollar capacidades emprendedoras. Esto se traduce en una serie de interrogantes sobre las habilidades críticas para el emprendimiento adquiridas por el alumnado universitario. Sin duda, estas interrogantes conducen a pensar en la oportunidad que supone plantear una investigación al respecto. Por tanto, el objetivo general de los estudios llevados a cabo como parte de esta tesis consiste en identificar el nivel de desarrollo de la cultura emprendedora que existe en la universidad española, mientras que los objetivos específicos se enfocan en la evaluación y el análisis de las competencias específicas. Concretamente, se plantean tres estudios empíricos centrados en el diagnóstico de las habilidades consideradas como esenciales en el emprendimiento entre el alumnado español universitario: (1) trabajo colaborativo, (2) liderazgo y motivación y (3) creatividad e innovación. La metodología aplicada es el modelo Rasch que permite análisis probabilístico del rasgo latente, que es difícil observar. Además, presenta una serie de resultados a partir la medición conjunta de ítems, en función del grado de dificultad, y sujetos, en función de su nivel de habilidad. Las muestras, para las que se aplica la técnica por conveniencia, se extraen de la población de la Universidad Europea del Atlántico (UNEATLANTICO), ubicada en Santander (Norte de España). Los resultados esperados apuntan a que el alumnado no priorice la formación de equipos heterogéneos y muestre ciertas carencias durante el desarrollo de proyectos colaborativos respecto a la comunicación y el liderazgo de equipos. Asimismo, los niveles de motivación, implicación en el trabajo e innovación serían bajos, aunque puede que las habilidades creativas estén más desarrolladas que las anteriores. En respuesta al diagnóstico obtenido, se plantea una propuesta piloto de desarrollo de proyectos emprendedores entre el alumnado universitario.

One-on-one comparison between qCSI and NEWS scores for mortality risk assessment in patients with COVID-19

Objective To compare the predictive value of the quick COVID-19 Severity Index (qCSI) and the National Early Warning Score (NEWS) for 90-day mortality amongst COVID-19 patients. Methods Multicenter retrospective cohort study conducted in adult patients transferred by ambulance to an emergency department (ED) with suspected COVID-19 infection subsequently confirmed by a SARS-CoV-2 test (polymerase chain reaction). We collected epidemiological data, clinical covariates (respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, systolic blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, level of consciousness and use of supplemental oxygen) and hospital variables. The primary outcome was cumulative all-cause mortality during a 90-day follow-up, with mortality assessment monitoring time points at 1, 2, 7, 14, 30 and 90 days from ED attendance. Comparison of performances for 90-day mortality between both scores was carried out by univariate analysis. Results From March to November 2020, we included 2,961 SARS-CoV-2 positive patients (median age 79 years, IQR 66–88), with 49.2% females. The qCSI score provided an AUC ranging from 0.769 (1-day mortality) to 0.749 (90-day mortality), whereas AUCs for NEWS ranging from 0.825 for 1-day mortality to 0.777 for 90-day mortality. At all-time points studied, differences between both scores were statistically significant (p < .001). Conclusion Patients with SARS-CoV-2 can rapidly develop bilateral pneumonias with multiorgan disease; in these cases, in which an evacuation by the EMS is required, reliable scores for an early identification of patients with risk of clinical deterioration are critical. The NEWS score provides not only better prognostic results than those offered by qCSI at all the analyzed time points, but it is also better suited for COVID-19 patients.

FairHealth: Long-Term Proportional Fairness-Driven 5G Edge Healthcare in Internet of Medical Things

Recently, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) could offload healthcare services to 5 G edge computing for low latency. However, some existing works assumed altruistic patients will sacrifice Quality of Service (QoS) for the global optimum. For priority-aware and deadline-sensitive healthcare, this sufficient and simplified assumption will undermine the engagement enthusiasm, i.e., unfairness. To address this issue, we propose a long-term proportional fairness-driven 5 G edge healthcare, i.e., FairHealth. First, we establish a long-term Nash bargaining game to model the service offloading, considering the stochastic demand and dynamic environment. We then design a Lyapunov-based proportional-fairness resource scheduling algorithm, which decouples the long-term fairness problem into single-slot sub-problems, realizing a trade-off between service stability and fairness. Moreover, we propose a block-coordinate descent method to iteratively solve non-convex fair sub-problems. Simulation results show that our scheme can improve 74.44% of the fairness index (i.e., Nash product), compared with the classic global time-optimal scheme.

Inequalities and Asymmetries in the Development of Angola’s Provinces: The Impact of Colonialism and Civil War

Angola, as with many countries on the African continent, has great inequalities or asymmetries between its provinces. At the economic, financial, and technological level, there is a great disparity between them, where it is observed that the province of Luanda is the largest financial business center to the detriment of others, such as Moxico, Zaire, and Cabinda. In the latter, despite the advantages of high oil production, from a regional point of view, they remain almost stagnant in time, in a social dysfunction where the population lives on extractivism and artisanal fishing. This article analyzes the most important events in contemporary regional history, the Portuguese occupation that was the Portuguese colonial rule over Angola (1890–1930) and the civil war that was a struggle between Angolans for control of the country (1975–2002), in the consolidation of the asymmetries between provinces. For this work, a theoretical-reflective study was conducted based on the reading of books, articles, and previous investigations on the phenomenon studied. Considering the interpretation and analysis of the theoretical content obtained through the bibliographic research conducted, this theoretical construction approaches the qualitative approach. We conclude that the deep inequalities between regions and within them, between the provinces studied, originated historically in the form of exploitation of the regions and from the consequences of the war. The asymmetries, observed through the variables studied show that the provinces historically explored and considered object regions present a lower growth compared to those that were considered subject regions in which the applied geopolitical strategy, as they are centers of primary production flows, was different. We also observe that, due to the conflicts of the civil war in the less developed regions, the inequalities have deepened, contributing seriously to a higher level of poverty and a lower development of the provinces where these conflicts took place.

Effects of Sports Betting Motivations on Sports Betting Addiction in a Turkish Sample

Many earlier studies conducted on sports betting and addiction have examined sports betting in the context of gambling and have not taken into account the specific motivations of sports betting. Therefore, the effects of motivational elements of sports betting on sports betting addiction risk are unknown. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of motivation factors specific to sports betting on sports betting addiction. Accordingly, three linked studies were conducted. Firstly, to determine sports betting motivations “Sports Betting Motivation Scale (SBMS)” developed and validated. Secondly, to determine the risks of sports betting addiction “Problem Sports Betting Severity Index (PSBSI)” was adapted from Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI). Finally, the third study examined effects of the sports betting motivations on sports betting addiction risk. Study one (n=281), study two comprised (n=230), and the final study comprised (n=643) sports fans who bet on sports regularly for 12 months with different motivations. The findings demonstrate that the SBMS appears to be a reliable and valid instrument for assessing sports betting motivations. Also, the findings provided PSBSI validity for the use of the Turkish and sports betting adapted version of PGSI. As a result of the main research, “make money,” “socialization,” and “being in the game” motivations were found to be positive predictors of sports betting addiction risk, while “fun” motivation was a negative predictor. The motivations “recreation/escape,” “knowledge of the game,” and “interest in sport” were found not to be significant predictors of the risk of sports betting addiction.

La comunidad docente y las competencias digitales: la formación a lo largo de la vida.

La formación pedagógica del docente debe partir de las competencias que el profesor debe desarrollar para aplicar a las TIC de manera educativa a lo largo de su vida docente. Este estudio, que es parte del Proyecto Europeo Lovedistance – Learning Optmization and Academic Inclusion Via Equitative Distance Teaching and Learning 609949-EPP-1-2019-1-PTEPPKA2-CBHE-JP, tiene como objetivo medir los niveles y dimensiones de las competencias determinadas por la UNESCO (2016) en cuanto a la acción docente frente a la utilización de las TIC en escenarios educativos. Se destacan las posibilidades de llevar a cabo una planificación basada en las TIC; el diseño o la capacidad de organización y construcción de escenarios de aprendizaje con las TIC; y la evaluación o la posibilidad de medida de la efectividad de las TIC para la educación a lo largo de la vida, en los espacios educativos que se desarrollan como docentes (Coll, 2008). El presente estudio se basa en el diseño de encuesta y utiliza como instrumento el cuestionario, aplicando una complementariedad metodológica con unos resultados que indican a través de un análisis descriptivo que la formación del profesorado, la coordinación y cooperación docente, y la profundización en el manejo de las tecnologías, son factores de gran importancia y favorecedores del uso de las TIC en la comunidad educativa.
